Transitioning the Tezos DeFi Landscape: tzBTC Phase-Out Plan
As the Tezos ecosystem moves toward Tezos X and EVM-compatible solutions for decentralised finance (DeFi) and real-world assets (RWA), including metals.io, we are beginning a structured phase-out of tzBTC, rebranded as xcBTC.
Why We’re Making This Change
The recent baker vote to end liquidity baking subsidies for tzBTC reflects a broader shift in priorities. We are focusing our resources on the next generation of Tezos DeFi and high-performance, interoperable infrastructure.
How to Exit Your Position
Two primary exit options will be available for a four-month period beginning on October 28, 2026:
- Retail holders: A managed USDT/tzBTC liquidity pool has been established to support low-slippage exits for community members.
- High-volume holders: The gatekeeper role has transitioned to Blockfort. For larger amounts, please use the manual unwrapping process through Blockfort’s official tzBTC page.
Important: The automated tzBTC/xcBTC bridge has been decommissioned and will not be re-enabled.
Stay Safe During the Transition
User security remains our highest priority. Because high-volume redemptions are handled manually, please remain vigilant against phishing attempts and impersonation.
